The Celts lose a tough one 103-98. They really should of sealed the Finals but its not all bad that the Celts win it at home.
The game started off as one would expect with the Lakers trying to start aggressively. The Celts fell behind yet again. The Celts still had problems getting shots to fall again and the Lakers were making all theirs so it seemed. It seemed that not having Perks inside presence hurt.
Kobe made a bunch of threes which was frustrating to see. He certainly was determined to have a high scoring game. The Lakers were definitely the desperate team.
The Celts chipped away after falling behind 19pts in the second quarter. The Celts bench stepped up their defense and stopped the Lakers who got a little careless. It was something that had to be exploited. It was great to see Tony Allen bring something off the bench too.
Paul Pierce was feeling it and having his way with the Lakers defense, He led the Celts 15-0 run in the second quarter. They outscored the Lakers 30-16 in the second quarter. Kobe was neutralized with no points. The Celts were down only 55-52 at half-time.
Ray Allen came out shooting a three and tied the game early in the second half. And Paul Pierce got the Celts first lead. The game would go back and forth from there and stay close.
The Lakers would retake the lead and not look back. They fell behind nine. But once again, the Celts would chip away but it wasn't enough. Pierce certainly gave it his best with a three pointer in the closing seconds but fell it wasn't enough. Ray didn't have a very good game. And KG was in foul trouble for most of the game. The refs made their presence known a bit too much in the game.
Gasol, Odom, and Kobe finally showed up and that was huge for the Lakers.
KG missing those last two free throws was a killer. The no-foul call on Kobe when he stole the ball was rather annoying but no surprise. The refs let the teams play in the final minute.
The win was there for the taking and the Celts couldn't take advantage of it. Perhaps not having Perk in the middle of the defense was a key in not getting the rebounds. It certainly was a size disadvantage. PJ Brown was good but he still had some problems.
Hopefully some home cooking can win it for the Celts. I do worry that exhaustion and all the extra games the Celts have played are catching up tothe guys.
