Should we go after Sam Cassell?
February 7, 2008
In my Opinion I am not holding a grudge against Sam I am for the hard hit he had on Rondo in the 2nd quarter of last nights game. The game was physical from the start and I don't think he went in with the intent to hurt him. Having said that I think the Celtics should aggressively go after Sam. He is a good veteran point guard with Championship experience and would be a solid back up to Rondo.
Rondo has improved so much but really doesn't have someone to hand the reigns over to if he gets tired, in foul trouble, or god forbid injured. Don't get me wrong I love Eddie House and Tony Allen. But when it comes down to it, I don't feel comfortable with them handling the ball, especially if it's an intense game and the opponents point guard is a lock down defender.
Cassell knows how to win dating back to his tenure with Houston. A couple NBA championships there as point guard, he is what we need to bring to this already balanced team.
Sam isn't a dominating scorer but at this point I don't think we need to look for a point guard who is. We just need someone that can handle the ball and create open shots. This is something I think Sam can do well.
Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will hear that Sam Cassell is the newest member of the Celtics, because again in my opinion he would be a key ingredient in hanging banner #17 up.
Go Celtics!!!
