Updates on Posey, Gomes & House (07/16, 6:00am): While prized free agent James Posey’s situation remains unresolved, it looks as though Eddie House may have one foot out the Celtics [team stats]’ door. The club would like to sign a veteran backup point guard to a one-year minimum deal and take advantage of the league reimbursement that comes with such contracts. But House is looking for security and a raise, which other teams apparently are offering. “Eddie’s not going to sign for one year at the minimum,” his agent, Mark Bartelstein, said yesterday. “There’s no chance of that. He’s got two or three offers on the table right now for more than that.”
Posey, meanwhile, still is on the market - a fact both the player and the Celtics would like to resolve as soon as possible. “We’re having heated discussions, but as of right now we don’t have a deal,” said Bartelstein, who also represents Posey. Who else on the market are you going to sign like him? Look at the wings. Ryan Gomes is restricted, and he’s not like Posey.”
Boston Globe (Frank Dell' Apa) Posey Wants a Four Year Deal From the Celtics, House wants 2!
James Posey, the Celtics' highest-priority unsigned veteran, is seeking a four-year contract, an NBA source said yesterday. Posey, 31, is treating negotiations as if this could be his final contract and has been in talks with Detroit, the Lakers, New Orleans, Cleveland, and Washington. No team has been willing to offer a deal beyond three years.
Guard Eddie House and Posey, who played key reserve roles in the Celtics' title run last season, returned to Boston for promotional appearances this week, both expressing interest in remaining with the Celtics. The interaction with fans has reinforced Posey's intention to stay in Boston. Posey spoke briefly with Celtics general manager Danny Ainge Monday. Ainge said no progress had been made yesterday. Asked about House's situation, Bartelstein said, "Same exact thing."
Hume's Pure Speculation: What a slick maneuver by agent Mark Bartelstein tossing out the name of Timberwolves RFA Ryan Gomes in his interview with the Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett to make his client ("Our Big Game" James Posey) look better. Apparently there have not been many suitors willing to prepare offer sheets on the former Celtic small forward. No don 't even think it, He can't be that blatant... Well I for one can't exactly count it out when it involves any possible wink-wink deal between best friends for life Danny Ainge and Minnesota Boss Kevin McHale. It is however hard to believe that McHale would risk his job and a possible David Stern authorized witch-hunt to investigate why "Kev" would once again help bolster the roster of his former team. Just for the PURE hell of it I put together the following trade scenario (give me a little credit for waiting a whole month before posting my first trade check of the Summer, note the calendar reads July 16th!): In my proposed sign & trade Boston would send Glen Davis, Gabe Pruitt and Brian Scalabrine to Minny for Ryan Gomes. When the smoke clears from yet another Boston/Minnesota deal the C's would still have a sliver of the Mid-Level Exception left to spend on another Point or Middle Man!
