Truth is, Pierce still celebrating
SoxisSickies found this 12 days ago on www.boston.com |
The Celtics played 108 regular-season and playoff games on the way to winning the NBA championship last month. But Paul Pierce has not needed much time to recharge his batteries, the thrill of victory providing the motivation to start preparing for next season.
"It feels good, truthfully," Pierce said of the aftermath of the title run, capped by beating the Los Angeles Lakers in six games. "It was kind of hard on the people out in LA. They were happy, but they were sorry, too. But it is what it is, the Boston Celtics are champions."

Hornets zero in on Posey
SoxisSickies found this 12 days ago on www.nola.com |
The Hornets are targeting Boston Celtics free agent James Posey to solve their needs at shooting guard, but whether Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower can pull off a deal is uncertain.
Free agents can begin signing contracts Wednesday, and Posey is one of the most sought after on the market. Posey, who can play shooting guard and small forward, appears to be one of the Hornets' No. 1 targets. However, it likely would take a full mid-level exception offer of $5.8 million for him to consider coming to New Orleans.
Since July 1, the first day teams could begin contacting free agents, Bower has been in discussions with Posey's agent, Mark Bartelstein. Posey, 6 feet 8, was the Celtics' top reserve and played a key role against the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals.

FBI to look at Celtics fan death
SoxisSickies found this 12 days ago on www.bostonherald.com |
The FBI will investigate whether Boston police used excessive force while arresting a man who later stopped breathing during Celtics [team stats] championship celebrations.
David Woodman stopped breathing while in custody and died 11 days after police say they spotted him drinking from an open container of what they believed was alcohol.
An FBI spokeswoman said Monday that the agency’s investigation will not begin until Suffolk County prosecutors have finished their own probe into the death of the 22-year-old Brookline man.

This year, Davis not one of the babies in camp
SoxisSickies found this 17 days ago on www.boston.com |
Glen Davis didn't feel this comfortable at this time last year. Yesterday, he sat down and stretched out his legs as he answered questions after the first day of the Celtics' rookie/free agent minicamp.
Davis and guard Gabe Pruitt were the "veterans," the only Celtics from this past season's team taking part. None of the assembled players had more than two years of NBA experience, and all were hoping to make a lasting impression.
Only one year removed from his introduction to the Celtics, Davis said he remembers the feelings of uncertainty in his first year out of Louisiana State.
"I just remember not knowing what's going on here," said Davis. "The biggest thing was being clueless about what's going on and not getting a feel. Just wet behind the ears."

J.R. Giddens on way home
SoxisSickies found this 17 days ago on www.bostonherald.com |
J.R. Giddens might have been swayed by all of the trappings - the championship banners and retired numbers - when he met the media in the Celtics [team stats]’ Waltham practice facility Tuesday.
But the impending rookie also has business sense. Unable to reach a quick agreement on his rookie contract with the Celtics, the guard declined to participate in the start of yesterday’s rookie and free agent camp.
By late morning, he had flown back to his home in Oklahoma City.

Celtics deny Corey Maggette offer
SoxisSickies found this 17 days ago on www.bostonherald.com |
Though contract offers and mere contact with free agents often are confused during this rumor-laden time of year, the result can be maddening for the organization that is attempting to gauge interest in a player.
That’s where the Celtics [team stats] found themselves yesterday amid reports they made an offer to free agent Corey Maggette.
A team source insisted no offer was made to the former Clippers swingman, though Danny Ainge reportedly has talked to a number of players, including Maggette, as he attempts to build a pool of candidates in the event his top priority - signing James Posey - falls through.
